quit being so dramatic.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

a little something you should know about me. im pretty dramatic. not in the 'i'd be a great stage actress' way, but the 0-60mph, no holding back, all emotions on my sleeve kind of dramatic. and i can't help it. im a cancer. (you know, the zodiac sign) it may or may not get me into a lot of trouble here and there, but its me, and i guess if you love me, you learn to deal with it. CL has. haha

and is it me or has this week been dramatic in general? i know my life is a constant roller coaster, but i've been chatting with my friends this week and their worlds are getting rocked too. isn't summer supposed to be sublimely easy? geez.

i am SWAMPED this week. with you guessed it. kind of non paid magazine work. (i say kind of non paid in that i get paid after the articles get published in a couple months!) im interviewing a designer, a bar owner, and a hotel (for the wedding- totally non magazine related!) tomorrow. yea. all in one day- wish me luck! and say a prayer we can nail down a date for the wedding. this is getting stressful not being able to set a date!

sunday we met my dad at the salt lick in driftwood for fathers day. it was SO good, as usual. it wasn't terribly hot and the wait wasn't bad. and the peach cobbler? delish. im still full even thinking about it!
last night CL and I got (free- thanks dell!) tickets to the round rock express baseball game. it was also dollar hotdog night, so if you know anything about me, i was im heaven. the express used to be an astros affiliate (go 'stros!) but now they are a rangers farm team and well you guessed it. they are way better now. its so sad that even the astros farm teams have to suffer. the express won, and CL got to see his 1st live grand slam. it was a great night!

thanks to all you lovely readers that sent me kind words about what im going through right now. its so difficult trying to stay calm, find a (salaried) job, plan a wedding, and keep my head from spinning. i know that someone always has it worse, and that im probably being overly dramatic, but hell its my life and if i want to be dramatic, i will. but thanks for the support. yall are wonderful!

oh and one last thing!
happy 1st day of summer!
its officially 13 days til my birthday (or the 4th of July for most of you!)
hope you have plans or something fun to do!i know i will!

Too soon?

I probably should have waited about 4 hours to write that last post. Things aren't always what they seem. Things get worse before they get better.

Or at least I hope they do.

growing pains.

She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart
While i'm drinking jack all alone in my local bar
And we don't know how we got into this mad situation
Only doing things out of frustration
Trying to make it work but man these times are hard
She needs me now but I can't seem to find a time
I've got a new job now in the unemployment line
And we don't know how we got into this mess it's a gods test
Someone help us cause we're doing our best

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard
But we're gonna start by drinking old cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night
Saying things we haven't for a while, a while yeah
We're smiling but we're close to tears Even after all these years
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting
For the first time

She's in line at the door with her head held high
While I just lost my job but didn't lose my flight
But we both know how we're gonna make it work when it hurts
When you pick yourself up you get kicked in the dirt

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard
But we're gonna start by drinking old cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night
Saying things we haven't for a while...
-the script 'for the first time'

something about these lyrics hit home. i can't hear this song without tearing up. maybe it's because i identify with them so well.
you all know its been a rough, unemployed road. and it just seems to  be getting tougher.. especially trying to plan a wedding on top of everything. CL and I have learned that we just need to enjoy our time and in the end, its about us and over the last few weeks we have learned more about each other than we ever thought we could. i am glad that we are experiencing all these growing pains now- its not only making us stronger, but we will be entering marriage with such a strong relationship, that i have no fear (not that i did before, but you know) of anything. i know CL is a great man and he would lay on train tracks for me, and i would do the same for him. it's hasn't been easy, but no one said it would be.
but it's totally worth it.

wedding wednesday!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

nothing too exciting to report on the wedding front. we still don't have a date, a venue, a photographer-- nothing. i do however have a fabulous pair of shoes! i mean, you have to start somewhere right?

CL was trying to cheer me up the other day so we decided we could start our registry! he knew i was itching to do something wedding related, and i love to shop, so why not combine the two? im not going to tell you where we went or what we registered for.. yet! we did have fun picking stuff out-- and we didnt argue or disagree on anything! who knew we had such similar (and fabulous) taste?! i've trained him well!

one thing i can tell you (that i NEVER thought i would) is that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries and CL and I have something in common. we both registered for the same Baccarat crystal. who knew?

chill.

it's hot ya'll.
like 90 degress at night, triple digits during the day.
CL and I have been taking measures to keep cool.. lots of water, working out in the early AM or late evening, eating light, and drinking cool (you know. the occasional beer or glass of cold white wine!)
but tonight we cracked.
its not on my diet, BUT every once in a while when it's really hot, the only thing to cool you off is a good ole fashioned frosty from wendy's
oh yes. SO freaking good. and satisfying. and a junior size is only $0.99! and 170 calories. and occasionally i say they are allowed. (yes i give you permission!)
whats your fav summertime cool off snack?
PS im still on the hunt for a snow cone in ATX.. where are the good stands?

austin's best bugers.

Monday, June 13, 2011

we eat a lot of burgers. not on purpose, but when we are out running errands and looking for a good, quick, inexpensive bite, burgers are where it's at. while at lunch on saturday, CL and I were talking about all the burger places in austin, and how they rank.. which got me thinking.. we have a LOT of great burger places in the capital city. here are our faves.. in no particular order!

(owned by amy of amy's ice cream!)
5620 Burnet Road-Northland and Burnet (Next to Amy's Ice Creams!)
2901 S. Lamar the heart of 78704
phils has a great burger.. and they are all named after areas of town! (theres an allandale, brentwood, rosedale, 78704!) sourdough buns, fresh veggies, and you can complete your order with mix fries (sweet potato AND regular!) and a bonus.. stadium to-go cups! i love my phils cups!

Ste 142, 10000 Research Boulevard, Austin
4301 W William Cannon Dr, Austin
relitively new to austin, five guys has a great, all inclusive burger (everything from mushrooms and onions included!) and their fries? YUMMY!
7525 Burnet Road Austin, TX 78757
okay, if you've been living in austin for more than a hot second and haven't been to top notch, you are doing yourself a disservice. an austin institution since 1971 top notch has a delicious menu full of burgers, fried chicken and other delicious fried goodies. we havent tried the fried chicken, but have heard nothing but good things about it. and the onion rings? best in town. they now accept credit and debit cards too!

10515 North Mopac Expy #205, Austin
5601 Brodie Ln #1300, Sunset Valley
part of the rudy's bbq family, mighty fine has some yummy burgers! all fresh ingreditents, crinkle cut fries (my fav!) and delish bluebell ice cream shakes, you can't go wrong. they also have a chopped chili dog that tastes as good as it sounds! and bonus! to-go stadium cups too!

8107 Mesa Dr, Austin, TX 78759
a no nonsense burger joint, wallys has yummy burgers, chicken strips, and fries for those craving a quick bite on the north side. make sure if you dont like mustard to tell them.. they use a lot!
1400 S Congress Ave STE 190A, Austin, TX 78705
you know how they say if there is a line, it must be good? well that holds true there. its easy to find on SOCO.. just look for the line. all fresh, organic ingredients, local beer, and delicious curry ketchup, hop doddy doesn't disappoint. bonus? they spike their milkshakes. oh yea.

1701 East Cesar Chavez Ste. B, Austin
two words. stuffed. burgers. with a menu full of creatievely named burgers (the norma jean! the foghorn leghorn!) hot dogs (um hello the 'snoop dog!) and sides, this un-diet friendly eatery is quickly becoming the east-sides go to burger joint.

404 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin
3303 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin
4228 West William Cannon Drive, Austin
a true burger stand, P. Terry's is an austinites go to burger. although i've only actually eaten their chicken burger (trust me, its delicious), P.Terry's is definately one of my faves. and their fresh lemonade? my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

5400 Burnet Road, Austin
fresh beef, fresh fries, and made to order shakes? always with double meat too! hat creek burgers are a game time fav too.. they have a stand at UTs Daryl K Royal Stadium!

dan's/ fran's
5602 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin/ 1822 South Congress Avenue, Austin
separated by divorce, Dan's and Fran's are basically the same burger, with different names. Looking for something delicious and greasy? this is the burger for you. did i mention it's delicious?  cause it is!

807 West 6th Street, Austin, TX
an austin tradition since 1939, hut's is the definition of austin. local and delicious. meat purchased in south austin, over 20 choices (plus build your own- the options are endless!), and a hamburger happy hour (2 for 1 burgers, wednesdays 6-10pm!), Hut's is your downtown burger destination.

9828 Great Hills Trail, Austin, TX
organic, sustainable, grassfed, free-range. all ways to elevate your dining experience. elevation burger allows you to build your own burger (3-10 patties!) and top them off with an assortment of yummy toppings (blue cheese!) cutting carbs? they can wrap your burger in lettuce!

have any faves? did i miss one?

sweet summertime.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

as i was running the dogs in the dog park today, i was so quickly reminded that yes, it is definitely summer. as the sun beat down on us (me, molly & bailey) all i could focus on was the splashing and laughter of all the kids in the pool that backs up to our townhouse. the breeze blew sweet scents of coppertone (you know, the coconut sunscreen scent.. YUM!) and i just wished i was on some island paradise.
(via weheartit)

it wasn't quite an island paradise, but it was close. CL and I went to kgsr's 'blues on the green' last night. its a free concert in zilker park every two weeks, all summer long. kicking off this summer's concert series was none other than austin's own bob schneider. the weather was perfect, the grass was lush and green, and we even met up with some blondes from BvB (definitely a bonus!) i can't wait to see who plays next!

behind the scenes.
