Dr. Brown's Baby Review Part 1

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

The folks over at Dr. Brown's Baby sent Beckett the most wonderful package of goodies to test out a couple months ago. We didn't have any Dr. Brown's Baby products, so I was really excited to get to test them out. Since he was starting solid's and teething, they sent mostly 2nd stage products and all their teethers!

I'll start with the teethers

We received the Flexees, Orthees Coolees, and Ridgees. They are all BPA free freezer safe, and designed by pediatric dentists.

The (blue) Flexees seemed to be Beckett's favorite. It was easy to attach to him with rings or his paci clip, stayed cold, and he seemed to really like the ridges, especially when they were cold. He was able to hold the Flexee with ease too! He still uses this one today.

The (blue) Orthees was a little hard for him to use. While it seemed like the easiest one for him to chew on since it's designed like a pacifier, it really took him a long time to figure out he could chew on it. Once he did start to chew on it, he lost interest fast and I could usually find it thrown out of his Joovy Room2. The Orthee did stay cold for a good amount of time, but Beckett just wasn't interested.

We both really loved the grape and watermelon shaped Coolees. They are made of solid flexible rubber and seem to stay cold for a good amount of time. They were easy for him to hold and chew. Even the handle (the harder green rubber) was easy for him to chew on. He liked to alternate between the Flexees and the 2 Coolees best.

The Ridgees is giraffe shaped, and has both hard flexible rubber and textured surfaces to chew on. It seemed to lose is coolness relatively fast but Beckett didn't seem to mind. He enjoyed it, but seemed to enjoy the Flexees and Coolees better. He may enjoy this once his back teeth start to come in, but as far as front teeth, he didn't seem to like it much.

We also received 2 blue Training Cups, one in 6 ounces, and one in 9 ounces. They are BPA free and feature a sip-activated valve that keeps the cups spill proof. They are dishwasher safe (check out part 2 of my review for info on that!) and have a soft spout that is super easy to drink from. They both come with training 'handles' that help Beckett hold the wide bottles. While the sip-activated valve helps keep the bottles from leaking, they are a pain to clean. It feels like you are ripping the valve off the plastic cup because it has so many spots that it attaches. The shallow lid also fell off in my diaper bag a few times.. this could be user error or a design flaw.. I can't decide. He still uses these but prefers straws now. The 6 ounce cup has a sheen to it, making it opaque while the 9 ounce cup is transparent. The 9 ounce cup has a cute monkey design on it, which I love too! Both cups have liquid measurements on them so you can see how much you are giving your little one!

My favorite items we recieved are definately the solid feeding items. I never knew i'd love a baby product as much as I love some of this stuff!

The Make-A-Smash Food Masher is great for Moms on the go. You can literally put anything in this easy to transport masher and make food anywhere. I would recommend a ziplock bag to put it in after you use it if you are out so it won't make a mess. It's kind of like a mortar and pestle- it mashes food in seconds so you can feed your kiddo anywhere. Softer foods (like bananas and potato) work best. I wouldn't recommend trying to mash an apple, although it will work.

The Snack-A-Pillar Stackable Snack and Dipping Cups are my absolute favorite item we received. They are wonderful. You can stack them all together, or use them individually. You can put just about anything in them too.. puffs, formula, rice cereal, food- you name it. They keep your puffs fresh and keep them from getting crushed in your diaper bag. They have a rubber ring to keep air and spills far away too. They are BPA free too, which is always a plus when it comes to food storage. We easily use these every day. For cereal, or even to put pouches in these work perfectly. They are super easy to take with you and travel great.

The Feeding Bowls are great too. They are the perfect size for all of Beckett's meals. From cereal, oatmeal, pouches, and stage 3 jars (and soup!) these bowls are great for every meal. The bowls are BPA free and have a non-skid base, which comes in handy when baby tries to steal the bowl! They also have a rubber 'tab' on them, which is great to hold onto as well. We love these bowls- and use them every day.The Divided Plates are just as great as the bowls except are divided and a little shallower then the bowls. Since Beckett only usually gets one thing to eat during meal time, we haven't really used them as much, but as he starts eating more and more foods we have started using them more and more and they work great!

I have a love/hate for the Long Spatula Spoons. You get 4 in a pack, and they are long enough to reach into the bigger jars of food (you will get some on your hands and the handle), are great for 'cutting' and mashing foods as well as wiping food off of Beckett's face. They however are useless when it comes to scraping the sides of any bowl. Since they are flat, they don't hug the sides of the feeding bowls (or any bowls actually), leaving a lot of food in the bowls and jars.  Also, when you are feeding with these spoons, the food moves toward the handle and is hard to get into a Baby's mouth without shoving the whole thing in their mouth. While I do like these, I prefer the Soft-Tip Infant Feeding Tommee Tippee Spoons I have better.
