Dr. Brown's Baby Review Part 2

Monday, January 26, 2015

Right before the holidays, the folks over at Dr. Brown's Baby reached out a second time and asked if we wanted to review any more of their products, and we gladly accepted! (It also kicked my butt into gear to get these reviews written! Sorry for the delay!!)

Again, Beckett got a big box full of goodies to review!

I was especially excited this go round because not only did we get all these fun items to try out, but Dr. Brown's sponsored a bottle giveaway! Before Christmas 3 Lucky instagram readers received the 2014 Special Edition Holiday Bottle!

The Special Edition Holiday Bottle is a Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Standard 8oz bottle. We had never tried a Dr. Brown's bottle until now, and I don't know why we waited so long. I was worried Beckett wouldn't take it since it doesn't have the wide nipples like the Tommee Tippee bottles he is accustomed to, but he takes this bottle every night now! My absolute favorite thing about this bottle is that it's made right here in the USA. It's also BPA free, and reduces colic, gas, spit up and burping. These bottle also help preserve vitamins C, A and E-lipids. The insides may seem weird at first but once you get used to it, it goes together in a second. It's vacuum free feeding like breastfeeding, which is why I think Beckett likes it so much. We tried this bottle soon after starting to ween him and the transition went really well. The interior vent system has 2 pieces which gives the bottle a positive pressure flow. As Beckett drinks, air is channeled from the nipple through the vent system, bypassing the breastmilk or formula, to the back of the bottle where the air never mixes with formula. This minimizes oxidation and helps preserve essential nutrients like vitamins C, A and E. Whew! How cool is that? I'd definitely recommend this bottle to anyone with a gassy/ colic-y baby!

We use both the Y-Cut and Level-4 Standard Nipples. These allow maximum flow, so Beckett works smarter, not harder! He doesn't like it when he doesn't get fed fast enough. They are made of high grade, soft silicone and are BPA free too. I really was concerned that he wouldn't like these smaller nipples or the narrower bottle, but he seems to really love this system. He can easily hold the bottle and with the reduced gas factor, it's been a huge help. (Someone is a little gassy...) They are super easy to clean with the chevron channel on the base of the Deluxe Bottle Brush.

The Folding Drying Rack may be my new favorite item in our house. Since we have stopped breast feeding (tear!) we are using bottles like crazy, and our Boon Grass wasn't cutting it. This folding drying rack is compact and has tons of space for all sorts of stuff- bottles, bowls, pacifiers, spoons- you name it! Like all their other items, the Folding Drying Rack is BPA free, and is easy to clean-- you can put it in the dishwasher! It has a raised drying platform which allows water to collect (and evaporate) in the bottom tray. On the right side, it has short posts for pacifiers, and nipples which I love- it keeps things from rolling around! The longer posts are great for all kinds of bottles, which is nice if you use more than one brand, like we do. The best part? When you're not using it, or are having company over, it folds up and stores away great!

All folded up!
The Deluxe Bottle Brush is amazing too. It comes with a suction cup base, which holds the brush in place when you aren't using it. The sponge at the top really helps clean the bottom of even the tallest of bottles and the bristles are firm but soft at the same time (is that possible!?).  The brush has a nice handle and a chevron channel at the bottom to clean the insides of any bottle nipples. It also has an interior cleaning brush in the handle which cleans straws really well. It even comes with an extra brush! I've actually used this to clean my crystal stemware, it's that nice! After using other brands cleaning brushes, I won't ever use anything else!

The Standard Dishwasher Basket works great when you really need to clean bottle parts. It works only with Dr. Brown's Standard bottle parts, so don't try and cram other parts in there! There are cut outs that resemble the bottle parts where you put the parts, close the basket, and put it in the top rack and let your dishwasher to the work! It fits 3 complete bottle sets, which is nice to get a few cleaned at once! It's not my favorite thing, but it is nice to have sanitized parts every few days! I wish it had room for pacifiers, since those are what need to be cleaned the most!

Beckett hasn't taken a pacifier other then his newborn soothie (seriously) since he was born, so I was anxious to try out the Dr. Brown's PreVent Pacifiers. We received both the butterfly shaped pacifier and the Unique shaped pacifiers as well as a blue pacifier clip. The verdict is still out on the pacifiers. I love that they are made in the USA! and are BPA free. The pacifiers have a patented suction-free air channel that reduces suction and palatal pressure, which is really cool but I can't seem to get Beckett to use them. I think it's the shape? Im not sure, but Im still trying! He has one in his crib, and one attached to the pacifier clip that I've been taking with us, but he prefers not to have a pacifier if I offer him one of these, unfortunately. They come in all sorts of colors and have cute designs, so i'm hoping he gets used to them soon! The pacifier clip however does not stay on. It's got the cutest blue and light blue polka dotted fabric but the plastic clip comes loose as soon as Beckett tugs on it. I don't think he's the strongest baby in the world, but he does have a good grip!
