Maternity Bluebonnet Photos

Tuesday, September 4, 2018

While I was kind of against it, we ended up taking our spring bluebonnet photos as a makeshift maternity shoot. While I'm glad we took them, they aren't my favorite photos of myself, but hey- I was growing a human, so I gotta give myself a little slack, right?
I love that we got to take them in the bluebonnets.. blue for my boys and as Texan as it gets!

Thankful for Life Lately.

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

These last two months have been nothing short of a whirlwind!

Between Beckett's Mother's Day Out,  root canals, traveling to San Francisco, Waco & Round Top, Petting Zoos & Halloween, work, and now a move (UGH, yes, again) I've been swamped from sun rise to bed time!

'School' is going great and Beckett has completely adjusted- he walks right on it, puts his lunchbox in his basket (I have to carry the backpack because it's heavy!) and he goes right on into his classroom without even saying goodbye. It's so great that he enjoys it, but come on kid! Kiss your Momma goodbye at least!
Halloween was seriously fun this year. Beckett went as Captain Jake from Jake and the Neverland Pirates and i'm 100% sure if I never took off his costume, he wouldn't have minded! We were able to go to a trunk-or-treat at his school which was a great dress rehearsal! He also had a costume parade at school plus Halloween, so at least I feel like he got great use out of his costume!
yo ho let's go!

I'm trying to remain positive about this move, but what a pain! The house we are leasing currently has really, really bad foundation issues and the owner is going to A) have to spend a LOT of money on repairs- like ripping up all the flooring and master bathroom and kitchen kind of repairs, or B) going to sell the house because it's basically a wash. So needless to say when we asked to renew under the condition that the foundation was checked and fixed and got the results, we knew that we had to get out of here. We can't wait to share our new home but until then, i'm trying to stay on top of packing so that it's as seamless as possible!

I finished my 2nd half marathon in San Francisco. i finished. That's about all i'm going to say about that! I'm about to start training for a 3rd in March that I plan on being way more prepared for! It was great to get away for a weekend by myself, but I did miss my guys when I neared the finish line!
As we gear up for the holidays, (hey Thanksgiving! You're my fav!) Im constantly reminded how lucky I am even if I am going a mile a minute! This is the busiest season of the year, and with a toddler in tow it's even busier, but I wouldn't trade it for the world! What are you thankful for during this busy season?!

The Stay-at-Home Working Mom Balance

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

It's been 2-ish months since I started working part time from home and I think i've finally found a great balance between working and being a stay-at-home Mom.

I'm so happy that I was able to stay home with Beckett, and now am able to work (and make $$!) from home. He will be starting Mother's Day Out in September, which will allow me to have a few hours of free time 2 days a week! This is definitely the way to go if your life allows it. I can't imagine heading to work 3 months after giving birth, then staying home when your child is older. The US needs to get with longer maternity leaves. Seriously. Anyways...

Some days are easy peasy and some days i'm up past 11pm trying to get my work done.

Most days look like this:
And some days, when I'm lucky, they look like this.
But no work would EVER get done if I wasn't super organized. You have to find the balance between Mom life, work life, cleaning & laundry, playdates, Gymboree classes.. the list goes on and on. Some days I feel like I get nothing accomplished, and some days I get to take a shower and blow dry my hair, go out to lunch AND get my work done.

Here are a few tips on how I stay balanced.

Write It Down.
You are more likely to remember things when you physically write something down, so I write it alllll down. I swear by this planner and keep it with me at all times. Yes. I'm old school, whatever. I get a new one in a new color every year for Christmas (Thanks Mom!) and I keep them in our library. It's fun to pull them out every now and then and see what I was up to in years past. It's like Time Hop, but better! ;)
via
Keep to a Schedule
With a baby/toddler/kid schedule is key. Up between 7 and 8ish. Breakfast. Coloring/playing/Bubble Guppies. Nap time around 11:30. Shower get dressed. Lunch. FREE TIME. Nap again around 4, snack time, play with Daddy til Dinner, bath time, brush hair/brush teeth, lights out. We try to keep him on this schedule every day the best we can. Obviously we aren't super sticklers and we are flexible, but you know. Now, some days there are play dates, movies, and Gym, but we strive on keeping him scheduled. He knows it, we know it, and it works. This allows me time to get most of my work done by noon, then the rest during his afternoon nap and after CL gets home.

Stay Accountable
I'm lucky to have a wonderful partner who keeps me accountable and helps me when I fall behind. CL helps me out when he gets home if I've had a bad day. He makes sure that Beckett is taken care of so I can catch up, clean up, and make it to bed before midnight. He knows that I have two jobs, one of which is 24/7 and the other takes up 5 hours of my day. He knows that I can veer off course (I totally get sucked into Disney daytime programming-- no shame!) and some days Beckett just doesn't want me to get anything done. And that's ok. He's learning, and I am too!

Make Room for Fun!
Yes, fun. All work and no fun makes Jack (or Angelica, or you, or anyone really) a dull boy. I try to schedule a play date, movie, fun day along with a day of Gymboree to keep us active, and well, out of the house! Some times even taking a trip to the mall for lunch is all it takes. Alamo Drafthouse has baby days (Check your local Alamo for what day!) where you can go and your kids can be loud, obnoxious whatever they want, while you watch movies! Obviously it's better to see kid movies, but they have adult ones too (which is great if you have an infant or baby!) You'd be surprised how well the kids do in the movie! Every time i've taken Beckett, he's been great!
Beckett + Popcorn + Movies = Pure Baby Bliss!
Make Time for You and your Partner
This is probably the one thing we are the worst at. We are terrible at balancing being new parents and a couple... although we have been getting better at dating again since Beckett is older and we can trust him with a babysitter! I'm the worst at carving out time for myself. I can't help it if i'd rather spend my time with my family, but sometimes you need to take a yoga class, go for a run, or get a mani/pedi! (it helps if there's wine at the nail salon...) Make it a priority to spoil yourself every now and then- you deserve it!

Obviously, this is what works for us, but I hope it's helpful to someone else! How do you keep balanced?

Custom Jewelry with Anjolee

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

It's no lie that I like sparkly things... (um hello, even my blog's name is Gelie Beans & Sparkly Things!). So when there is a chance to custom design something that sparkles, I'm so in. And who doesn't love something custom? That no one else has?

This is where Anjolee comes in!

Anjolee is a fabulous site where all their pieces can be customized according to metal type, diamond size, diamond or gemstone quality, and size! They offer a great selection of gemstone jewelry with choices of birthstones too!

Since I just celebrated my 30th birthday, it was the perfect time to design a new pair of diamond studs!

The website is so easy to play around on and create just about anything- including dream engagement rings! Navigate to your piece of choice (wedding & anniversary, earrings, bracelets, necklaces & pendants) and you're ready to customize once you choose a piece! For me it was the Romanced by Diamonds Stud Earrings. They are a similar shape to my engagement ring and the perfect size for every day or dress wear. They have screw backs so there's no worry about losing them, which for a Mom with a toddler is pretty awesome.
Once you've made your selection you can play with and change the metal type, view the piece in 3D, visualize the piece on a 3D model and you have the option to download a HD image of what you're looking at. In my case it was the earrings. This was so helpful seeing the earrings on the 3D model- you get a really great visual of what they would look like on you!
On this page is where you have all your custom options. Every time you make a selection, it populates on the right side of the screen so you know exactly what you are choosing! You have options to choose your metal (10, 14 18 Yellow or White Gold or Platinum!), the size (total carat weight), then you get to choose your center stones!
You have the opportunity to choose the color, clarity, cut, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, and of course price! They offer certified (GIA and IGI) or Anjolee Diamond™. An Anjolee Diamond™is a signature diamond that is handpicked by their expert gemologists to ensure the highest quality. The Anjolee Diamond™ Standard offers excellent cut, and very good – excellent polish and symmetry and five color/clarity combinations to choose from. Anjolee issues its own Certificate of Authenticity which guarantees the quality of the diamonds and that they are natural, authentic and genuine. Anjolee never sells treated, enhanced, or lab-created diamonds!

Once you choose your diamonds, you're all set! Pay (they have tons of options!) and sit back while Anjolee makes & packages your jewelry and sends you a beautiful box full of sparkling diamonds and/or gemstones! Easy peasy!
Anjolee offers free shipping and 30 day returns in case you aren't totally in love with your creation! You will have to sign for your jewelry, so make sure you send it somewhere will you will be able to get it! Or guys, keep it a secret by having your jewels send to the office so your significant other doesn't accidentally open up a surprise!

The process is so easy and simple you'll want to order 2nds and 3rds! I mean, I'm already ready to pick out something fun! Our 5th wedding anniversary is only a couple years away.. I can't help but check out and look at all their gorgeous diamond eternity bands! I mean, can we celebrate early? Or a future (NOT pregnant, or planning on it any time soon, FYI) push present? Valentines? Christmas? I can come up with just about any excuse for a beautiful diamond ring!

And did I mention there's an app? It's free on iTunes and gives you all the same capabilities you have on a computer! And I know if you're about to get engaged, or just like looking at pretty things, this is a great way to pass your time!

Be sure to check out their website, like and follow them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube

I love my earrings, and know you'll love whatever you design too! Have fun!

Thank you to Anjolee for Sponsoring this post.

In The First 30 Years.

Thursday, June 4, 2015

With my 30th Birthday rapidly approaching (a month from today, exactly!!), i've been taking a lot of time to reflect on what all i've accomplished since i've been on this beautiful earth. While I haven't done everything I want to do in this lifetime, i've actually accomplished a lot and have a lot to be proud of. Here's a few...

via
  • I'm still alive. With so much violence, accident, and disease in this world, I'm very lucky to just exist after 30 years.
  • Graduated Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, Junior High, High School and College! With honors, without honors.. does it even matter anymore? hah.
  • Visited 23 out of 50 States.. That includes Hawaii but doesn't include Puerto Rico. So almost half!
  • Started a family. Including getting engaged, married and having a baby!
  • Trained and ran a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon! Half #2 in September!
  • Kept a dog alive since she was a puppy! Can you believe Molly is 6 already?!
  • Traveled to Europe. I actually flew to Madrid alone, so hey, that's a bonus!
  • Volunteered hundreds of hours to helping those in my community less fortunate than I. There is nothing better than being able to help someone in your own backyard that is in need.
  • Been published on-line and in print! (In print over 10x including articles for a magazine and our wedding being featured!)
  • Never broken a bone! (currently knocking on wood!) I tore some ligaments in my ankle once, but that's been the worst injury to date! Unless you count those stitches when I was 4...
  • Taught myself basic HTML. I know, sounds cool, but when you don't want to pay someone to develop things on your blog, you gotta do it yourself! And this day in age, its actually pretty useful!
So I know that doesn't seem like a lot, nor is it a '30 before 30' list, but hey, is 'Taking a just because trip' or 'Pay off all debt' or 'Learn to use my camera properly' something I need to make a list for?  Didn't think so. I know I gotta do that stuff!

I'm actually looking forward to my 30s. My 20s were full of a lot  (I mean A LOT)of learning, mistake making, adventures, defeat, success, confusion, and clarity. I feel like in your 30s you get to take all the shit you learned in your 20s and build on that. This is the time to make the most of it- to be (older &) wiser. To start really enjoying the small things and not sweat the small stuff.  And to stop caring what other people think or expect. You are in the driver seat!

So, here I go into my 30s! One month to go! (And no, Uncle Garry, this isn't me celebrating my 'birthday month'! ;) haha!!)

Just in (iPhone) Case!

Monday, April 27, 2015

So it's no question that my iPhone is constantly within an arms reach, so when I upgraded to my fancy schmancy (rose) Gold iPhone 6, finding a case was my new #1 Priority. Obviously.

Enter Shutterfly.
I'm a HUGE fan of the Shutterfly family of brands, so when I saw they had a bunch of new, customizable cases, I was sold. Not only do they have a bunch of totally adorable, easy to customize cases but they have cases for iPhone 4/4s, 5/5s, 5c, and 6 & 6Plus (.. aaand the Samsung Galaxy S3, 4 & 5 if your a non-apple person!). The cases are made of a really durable polycarbonate plastic and there is no need to remove the case to charge it!
It took me forever to pick one out.. there are SO many cute choices, but I eventually settled on the Knitted and Nice iPhone case. You can pick the photo (Beckett, obviously!), the monogram font (Carolyna Pro Black) & color (Ink Spot), the finish (matte or glossy-- go matte, you won't be mad you did!) and you can also choose wether or not to include a removable silicon liner.
I added the silicon liner because isn't phone protection like a little tiny hug to you're favorite device? A little extra protection is key- especially for moms with toddlers like myself. Even though Mommy's new phone is hands off, there's always that chance that my little tator tot is going to swipe it out of my hands and toss it somewhere it isn't supposed to be... #momlife
I had doubts about a 'printed' case too, I mean, who wouldn't? I keep my phone in and out of my back pocket pretty much on the daily, so there is a lot of rubbing in my jeans and pants. And let me tell you. This pretty little protective case has not only caught everyone's eyes, but it hasn't faded, rubbed off, chipped, nothing in the month i've had it. (Yes, I waited a whole month before writing this! I had to give it a proper test drive!) The case doesn't get in the way of any of the buttons or switches and doesn't interfere with the flash. It's the best case i've ever had. It's the real deal, y'all.

So if you're in the market, check out what Shutterfly has to offer.. they are SO much more than photo prints!

PS...enter MOMSDAY through April 29, 2015 for 20% your order and use code FREESHIP through the 29th as well to get you free economy shipping for orders over $39.. or you can upgrade your shipping to expedited shipping through the 29th with orders over $39 with code UPGRADE (be sure to choose expedited shipping at check out!)

I received the case as a gift from Shutterfly (Thank you SO Much!), but the thoughts and opinions are all mine!

Married, Moving, and Multiplying.

Monday, March 2, 2015

They say that the 3 of the most stressful things in life are getting married, having a baby and moving.

I'm never one to do things the easy way, so of course I did all of them in 2 years. We got married in May of 2012. Moved to California in December 2012. Celebrated our 1 year anniversary in May 2013 and welcomed our sweet baby boy in February 2014.

WHEW.

While it hasn't been easy, it's been totally worth it.

Since CL and I lived together for a couple years prior to getting married starting our married life was not much different. Yes, there were new rings on our fingers, and a marriage certificate, and lots of new gifts, but other than that (and the fact that when we fought, we had to get over it asap) nothing changed. We became husband and wife, an even playing team. We learned to compromise, but luckily we got most of that out of the way before we tied the knot.

We supported each other when things got rough (try getting laid off when you're 4 months pregnant...). We celebrated the good things (like a Hawaiian getaway for our 1st anniversary and Vegas for CL's 30th).  And we attempted to take advantage of living as a young married couple in the Bay Area--although since we moved back to Texas I don't think we seized the opportunity as much as we could have. Isn't hindsight always 20/20?

I am still stumbling with the idea that we are parents. I still smile when I introduce CL as my 'husband' and now he's DaDa too? When did we grow up? And why are we adults all of a sudden?

And moving? We have lived in 2 apartments and 1 house since Beckett was born (actually before he was 1!!)..I can't even positively say that this will be 'home' for a few years, but i've got my fingers crossed!

I've learned a lot in the last couple of years. Life is a journey. Not a destination. We are all learning as we go. NOTHING is perfect no matter how you make your life appear on Instagram, Facebook, or your blog. NOTHING. I'd be damned to give anyone marriage or parenting advice, either.. except that whole 'You aren't alone and you aren't the first or last to experience something.. someone, somewhere has been in your shoes too!' You'll cry and laugh and question your life a lot.

I can't think of a more stressful, eventful, un-perfect, or fun time in my life. It's been one big adventure and Im glad to have put down some roots! It's crazy how quickly time flies when you're having fun.

So here's to my crazy life.. being married, moving a lot, and having one sweet baby boy.

5 On Friday

Friday, February 6, 2015

Since i've got so much going on and my life currently consists of nothing but lists, I figured i'd link up with the girls of Carolina Charm, A.Liz Adventures, Hello! Happiness and The Good Life Blog and share 5 major (Beckett!) things going on this week!

1. Beckett is turning 1 (!) on Sunday and we are having his party on Saturday. I can't wait to share all the adorable details of his party, but you'll have to wait til next week! Here is a sneak peek of some of the decor!

2. Speaking of an almost 1 year old, we had his 1 year old portraits and a cake smash session taken a couple weeks ago, and we just LOVE how they turned out! How cute are these little feeties? Such a little boy picture.. overalls, bare, dirty feet.. Kristen (Kristen Hafner Photography) did such an amazing job!

3. We started a new bedtime routine with Beckett and IT'S WORKING! If you have been struggling with getting your baby to sleep, changing your normal routine up a bit, paired with blackout curtains and a sound machine are currently working wonders.. we are taking 11 hours of SOLID SLEEP after months of getting up every 2-4 hours. WOO!

4. My son weighs 26 Pounds. 26 POUNDS. A one year old that weighs 26lbs has got to mean we have a future JJ Watt on our hands, right? We noticed his hands getting huge bigger this last week and after weighing him its no wonder he's heavier (by 2 lbs from 11 months!)! He's a growing boy! Even with all the running and walking he's been doing for the past month, he's still got a big appetite! Hello future football star!

5. The older Beckett gets the more he's learning (obviously) and he's talking a lot! He still says 'ma-ma', 'da-da', 'dogs' (or 'og') and 'hush!' because our dogs bark all the time. Sometimes he's really chatty and he always sounds like The Swedish Chef from the Muppets! It's so funny and adorable!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend and come back next week to see all of Beckett's party goods!

Be sure to link up!

A Few Things I've Learned from My First Year of Parenting

Monday, February 2, 2015

With Beckett's 1st Birthday right around the corner (sniff, sniff!) i've been spending a lot of time reflecting on the last year and how wonderfully different our lives have been since Beckett was born. Now, we are far, far from perfect parents, and this year has been nothing short of a learning process, but here are a few things that i've learned this year. oh, and these are my opinions, so if you don't agree with something, remember that you're voluntarily reading this.
hours old.
no matter of preparation can prepare you for being a parent.
you can read all the books. you can take all the classes. you can pin a million 'things to know' for your 1st year as a parent. But NOTHING can prepare you for the feeling you have when you first lay eyes on your child. Nothing can prepare you for the round the clock care. Nothing can prepare you for the loss of dignity in the hospital during birth. Nothing can prepare you for the crying, the poop, the snuggles. Its something truly special that Im pretty sure I can't even describe. You have to experience it to know.

it's not always rainbows and butterflies.
lets be honest. the late nights are late. the crying can last for hours. the blues are real. the hormones are cray-cray. post-partum depression is serious. while you can appear to have the perfect life, the  little one, no one, no baby, no parent is perfect. Parenting is a journey and while the speed bumps can seem like the end of the world some times, your little ones will surprise you when you need it most.. They'll sleep through the night when it seems like months since you've gotten any rest. They'll stop crying when it seems like it's all they do. And when you have the worst day, ever and you're jamming out to Disney Pandora and 'You've got a Friend in Me' from 'Toy Story' comes on and your son walks over, smiles, and shares his snack and you are reduced to a puddle on the floor. They know.

it takes a village.
we spent the first 10 months of Beckett's life in California away from family and it was hard. There were plenty of nights where CL and I would just look at each other like 'wtf did we get ourselves into?!' it's hard adjusting. It's hard to assume you're doing a good job. i've called my mom and grandmother more times than i'd like to admit for advice, help, and just to unload.  im thankful for friends who I could call in a pinch. i'm thankful for an understanding husband. even if your village is 1,000 miles away, you need them.

being a stay at home mom is hard.
i don't give a flyingfuck what anyone says. it's hard. child care 24/7 is a thankless job, the hours are crap, your boss is a small human that can't talk (yet) and you don't get paid, and there is a lot of pressure to make it look like you've got your shit together, have a clean house and dinner on the table when your husband comes home. (side note, CL doesn't put pressure on me, but I feel obligated to get some stuff done in return for not working, after all i'm the CEO of the household!) I'm lucky enough that CL has allowed me to stay home and take care of Beckett, and I know it's not the case for everyone, but it's a lot of work. There are days when I don't get to shower. The laundry doesn't get done. The dishes pile up. My house is never clean all at once. Some days the only adult interaction you get is with your spouse who (may not) understand that the only talking you've done is to 2 dogs and an 11 month old. He may not understand the 'just let him cry' isn't as easy as it sounds when he's sitting in a quiet office with other quiet adults. I know he works his ass off, but sometimes I want him to switch places with me for a day or two and see how hard it is to balance everything. I mean, even Jay Cutler, quarterback of the Chicago Bears can't handle his 2 boys! "All hell has broken loose".. I die. haha
via
I know that some moms have to go back to work, and some moms choose to go back to work, and that's awesome. I applaud you. I can't imagine having to drop my tiny tot off every day to let someone else take care of him. There are a lot of little moments that they don't get to see, which is really sad for me, because I know I get to be here to experience every tiny detail of my kid's life. But to those who tell me 'I'd be SO bored.' or 'It must be SO nice to hang out all day' Well it's not boring. And yes we 'hang out' all day, but it's not all couch surfing and bon bons. Every minute of every day is un-perfectly planned out so that he gets all the sleep, exercise, learning, socializing and fresh air he needs. I think both staying at home and going back to work present difficult decisions and you and only you can make the best decision for your family.

mom cliques are real.
this video? it's totally true. ever go to a mom's group or meetup? all the stereotypes are true. We all size each other up. We all judge each other by how long we breastfeed, how quickly we lost the baby weight or if we didn't, what kind of stroller we have, what kind of wrap we use (Ergo all the way!) or if we wear our kids, if we choose to stay home, or go back to work, if we supplement or use formula instead of breastmilk, if we co-cleep (we do sometimes!) or sleep train. The list goes on and on, and if say you've never judged another mom, your lying, it happens (it's not always malicious.. i've been known to be like damn her, she looks amazing! thats judgey, but not mean). Even I am guilty of comparing myself and what we have to others. But hey, it's normal and human and it happens.

let it go.
sorry if you are now belting out the 'frozen' tune, but let it alllll go. your sanity. your timliness, cleanliness, perfectness, pre-concieved notions, your doubts.. everything. YOU are amazing, and no matter how bad you think you're screwing your kid up, you aren't. I don't think we give ourselves enough credit and are constantly comparing ourselves to others, but we are all parents first. I know this is something i've struggled with (you can ask my husband) but i've finally learned that first and foremost im doing the best I can and that's good enough.

New, Fresh, and Sparkles!

Friday, January 23, 2015

As you can see, there have been a few changes over here! Im so excited to unveil my new blog design. I couldn't be happier with the new rebranding of Gelie Beans & Sparkly Things! It's fresh, modern, clean, bright, and of course has some sparkle!

Take a look around and let me know what you think! I worked with Trina of Pish and Posh Design Studio and she was able to do exactly what I wanted! If you are in the market for some blog sprucing, I highly recommend her!

I'll be back next week with lots of fun, new posts!

Have a great weekend!

Have Baby Will Travel.

Now that we have flown with a 3 month old, 10 month old, and taken a few 4+ hour road trips, I think that i'm a pro at traveling with a baby. I'm also pretty sure that i'm not a pro, but it's been such a breeze, that I figured i'd share my tips with traveling with a baby since it was so easy for us! (World's chillest baby not included!)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a wreck a month out from flying with Beckett when he was 3 months old. We fly Southwest (the BEST!) and the moment I booked our ticket, panic set in. 3 hours and 52 minutes on a plane with a 3 month old? Will he scream the whole time? Will he have a blow out? Will I have a panic attack?

While I can't answer those definitively, I can offer you some tips for pre-flight, check-in, and on the flight! And for road trips too!

TIP!
Get there extra early. This should be a no brainer. If getting out the door takes an hour, plan on it taking an hour and a half. It's better to be early then late. Plus, security is always hit and miss, and with the amount of crap you'll be lugging with you, it's better to give yourself a little cushion. And since you'll need to go to the desk and check in, you'll need to account for a line there as well. No more checking yourself in and breezing through to the gate!

TIP!
Babies under 2 fly free on Southwest on your lap, as long as you can prove their age. Once you book your own ticket, you simply call Southwest ( Just in case you want the number it's 1-800-I-FLY-SWA and they are always super friendly!) Let them know that you are traveling with an infant (or baby, whatever) and they will add them to your ticket. Just bring your child's birth certificate or shot record to prove their age. Either works!
When you arrive at the airport, you need to check in at the counter. While you are checking your 2 free bags (take the 2nd, trust me), they will print your boarding pass, and a Boarding Verification Document for your kiddo. It's like a fake baby boarding pass. But you'll need it.
They have a really great website for any other random issues you may run into.  There is also info on how you can buy a child's seat (Tip: just buy the Wanna-Get-Away seat! It's cheaper!!), tips for flying pregnant, and other information! You can check it out here!

TIP!
When you are checking in, ask the airline representative if there are any seats available on the plane. If the flight is not full, you can bring your car seat on the plane/ give your child a seat FOR FREE. We have flown 3 times with Beckett, and twice we have been able to leave him in his car seat! It was great having the extra room! If they don't know, you can ask at the desk at the gate. They will let you know!

TIP!
If you are traveling with a stroller/car seat/car seat base you can buy a $15 Southwest Airlines Travel bag that is big enough to fit said stroller/car seat/car seat base in. You can buy it when you check in and get your boarding passes. You can take your stroller/car seat/ car seat base through security to the gate. If there is a seat available you can take your car seat on, and gate check the stroller/ car seat base in the bag. This keeps it clean and dry! TOTALLY worth the $15... keep in mind the Britax Stroller Travel bag for the STROLLER ONLY is $50, and the Britax Carseat Travel bag for the CAR SEAT ONLY is $70. That's $120 versus $15, just sayin'.

TIP!
If you are Traveling alone with a baby, start drinking early. Just kidding! If someone is dropping you off and can be at the airport for a while, have them get an escort pass. When I flew alone with Beckett, my biggest concern was 'How in the world am I going to get checked in with 2 huge suitcases and through security with myself, a baby, stroller/car seat/car seat base, boppy, my purse, and the diaper bag?' The answer? With CL.

You can ask for an escort pass when checking in. This allows your husband (or whomever is with you) to help you through security, and get you settled at the gate. They can wait until you board to leave. This was such a huge help. They go through security just like anyone else, but cannot (obviously) board the plane. Having an extra set of hands makes it that much less stressful.

TIP!
Only bring what you may need on the plane. Multiplied by 3. Hopefully you know your kid well enough to know what you may need during a few hour span. During a 3 hour flight, I packed at least 9 diapers, just in case. A new pack of wipes, just in case. 2 extra outfits, just in case. YOU NEVER KNOW. You may use all of your extras, and you may use none of them. babies are pretty unpredictable when it comes to being 35,000 feet in the air, so it's better to be over prepared, then to have a naked baby on arrival.

TIP!
Don't pack a million diapers in your suitcase. Unless you are traveling somewhere where you can't pick up or have Amazon deliver diapers and wipes, don't pack them. Every time we fly, we have my Mom pick up a box of diapers and thing of wipes and have them waiting for us, so that we have extra space in our suitcases or things we actually need to bring, like clothes and toys. If you need to bring them back with you, there is always space for a few extra diapers and a pack of wipes!

TIP!
If you are flying Southwest, you can board with Families between A and B boarding (unless you are lucky or buy early check-in and get A boarding, then board then!). You get to choose your own seat, and by the time it's Family boarding, most people choose the seats in row 1-6. I usually like to sit on the wing, but when traveling with B, I sit in row 18-ish. (A little behind the wing). It's nosier back there and close to the bathroom. The sound of the plane should lull your baby to sleep, and if they have a meltdown, its drowned out by the sound of the engine. Plus, it's closer to where the flight attendants hang out, so they will check on you and help you out if you need it. When we have flown with Beckett, we have sat on the window. Now, that may not be best if you need to walk up and down the aisle calming your little one, but it gives you a tiny bit of extra room so if you are lucky and can bring your car seat on, you have that extra width. I just tuck the boppy in between the window and the car seat and buckle him in tight!
If you aren't lucky enough to get the extra seat for your child, utilize the boppy! On one flight we didn't get lucky (it was the Sunday at 7pm, peak hours!) so we gate checked the car seat and stroller, and took Beckett on with just the boppy. He laid in my lap-- again the window seat has a little extra width, and he slept the whole time. I'm tellin' ya. Those extra 2 inches of width come in handy!
TIP!
On take off and arrival, have your little one suck on something. Ha. Give them a pacifier, bottle, or nurse them so that their ears won't hurt them. During our first flight with Beckett our wonderful flight attendant told us that it was more important during descent, and that if they are asleep, let them be. They'll let you know if something is bothering them. I've never been one to force a pacifier in my kids mouth, but for this, I keep my hand on the pacifier while it's in his mouth, just in case.

TIP!
Snacks! When traveling with babies, you can bring on formula, breast milk, and juice for your child. It's considered medically necessary, TSA says so. You can bring more then the 3.4 ounces, just let the TSA agents know it's in your bag, and they will screen it. Just FYI, they also took out my wipes and tested the bag for explosives. I know. We have traveled with frozen breast milk, formula, rice cereal and never had any issues.
We also brought food pouches, and a brand new thing of puffs with us. When in doubt, food always seems to keep babies happy. Happy and full= content baby, but don't forget, what goes in, comes out!

TIP!
If possible, travel during non-peak days, and during nap time. This gives you that small extra chance of having an empty seat for your kid, and the chance that your baby will just sleep the whole time. All flights we have taken Beckett on have been during nap time, and well, he's been asleep before take off. This last flight he stayed awake for take off, which scared the bejeezus out of me, but fell asleep about 10 minutes after take off. The motion and sound of the plane really is soothing to babies.

TIP!
Let the flight attendant know if it's your child's first flight, 10th flight, whatever. Let them know if you are traveling alone. Let them know you may need help. Southwest is notorious for having the best flight attendants, and they will check in on you. They will give you extra snacks. They will comfort you if you have a meltdown, or if you baby has one. During Beckett's first flight, our flight attendant was a grandmother of 3 boys, so she was all ready to help out if needed. Too bad he slept the whole time! If it's your kids first flight, they will even give you a little packet and certificate documenting their first flight! It comes with their first pair of wings, a coloring book and crayons, a Southwest luggage tag and a certificate with their name and date. It was so cute, and perfect for his baby book!

TIP!
TOYS. Bring a charged iPad. And a new toy or two. And your child's security blanket/lovey/ stuffed animal. I am not above shoving an iPad in my kids hands if he wants to listen to the ABC's at an appropriately quiet volume for the 100th time. If it keeps him happy and quiet and the people around me content, so be it. We try and limit Beckett's screen time to 10-15 minutes, so use this only in an emergency, but it does work! Fisher Price has really great educational baby apps- from piano's to color, shapes, numbers and the alphabet, they have definitely been wonderful for us!
Bringing a new toy will also keep your child's interest during a long flight. Not that old toys are bad, but something new is interesting and will entertain your child. You can also use it as a prize if they are well behaved for the whole flight. Again, i'm not above bribes! Whatever works!

If you bring their security blanket/ lovey/ stuffed animal, make sure you don't leave it on the plane! Take your time gathering your stuff when exiting the plane. Unless you are in a hurry, sit back, let the masses exit, then leave without being rushed.

LAST FEW TIPS!
And a few last notes! Some babies cry. A lot. I'm lucky to not have one, but in the event that your child is a mess, you can walk up and down the aisles with them, or hang out in the galley with the flight attendants. They are new faces and hopefully can help you comfort your child. If you wear your child, you can't wear them during take off or arrival (but how would anyone know? Just sayin') But as soon as you hit 10,000 feet, strap that baby on. That closeness may keep your child calm during the flight, and having your hands free is a great bonus! You also can't wear them while going through security, which is a bummer, but as soon as you are cleared, you can can get them back on.

During car travel, all these tips apply, except that whole security thing. Make sure you have a mirror in the back seat so you can see them, and hope for the best! Line your car seat with a waterproof blanket or liner, JUST IN CASE. You don't want to get stuck somewhere random with a poop lined car seat. If you are taking a really long trip, make sure you stop and change your baby's diaper and keep them comfortable and entertained. If you can sit with them, do! It'll keep them feeling safe. Plus you can always take a nap with them!

On shorter trips, don't stop unless you have to! On our drive from Houston to Plano (4 1/2 hours) I didn't stop. Beckett fell asleep, and didn't wake up until 20 minutes out, so I just kept going. Unless they are screaming, it's easier and best to just get your destination. There is nothing worse then taking a cranky baby out of a car seat for a few minutes to just have to put them back in there!

I hope that this is and will be helpful to you! I know that traveling with a baby is stressful, but take it in stride! You won't be the first one with a cranky baby on a plane, nor will you be the last! Do you have any traveling tips that I missed?

Happy Traveling!

Fashion Police! 2014 VMA and Emmy Edition

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

This last Sunday/ Monday were the MTV VMA's and on Monday night the Emmy's leaving me feeling old (who are all these Pop Stars?!) and excited for some good fashion (Gwen Stefani? Man I still want to be her when I grow up!)
Here are some of my Favorites from The Emmys!
via
Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a custom Carolina Herrera . She looks amazing, seriously.
via
Julia Roberts in Elie Saab Couture. I mean, I kinda love this.. its fresh, formal, and that color?! Divine! I mean, how much fun does it look like she's having?!
via
Gwen Stefani in Versace. I mean she can do no wrong in my eyes. Classy but fresh. Who's to say I wouldn't mess up saying COL-BERT on live tv?
via
Viola Davis in Escada. If I had a shape like hers, i'd totally rock this figure hugging dress. The color and embellishment are perfection.
Faves from the VMA's
via
Kesha in Johanna Johnson. The color and sparkle were perfect for August and it's just sexy enough for the VMAs without being, well, slutty. She really looks amazing since her stint in rehab for her eating disorder.
via
Jamie Chung in Versace. Age appropriate, fun, just enough sparkle and that red is perfect on her.

via
Gwen Stefani is L.A.M.B. Couture. The color, the embellishment the way it's styled? I love everything about this. And it's her own design. LOVE!
And now for the fashion fails!
via
Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture at the Emmys. I mean, I can't even. I think she does this for attention, but seriously. Stand up straight for crying out loud. Also, I would have totally rocked this skirt with a white tank, good posture, and some big ass earrings.
via
Julianne Hough in D Squared at the Emmys. Ill fitting, heavy material and those white pumps? Ick.
via
Katherine Heigl in vintage John Hayles at the Emmys. UGH. Matronly, bad color... just no.

via
Amber Rose in chain mail Laura Dewitt . To her defense she looks amazing, but this is not a dress.
via
Taylor Swift in Mary Katrantzou . I love her and her body is amazing, but no. Im loving her recent fashion risks, but this is just bad. maybe in a different print, or something, but this is one of her worst looks in my opinion.
via
Arianna Grande in Moschino. Should 12 year olds, wear this much leather? JK, She's 21, but this is still awful. And does she seriously only wear her hair like this? Change it up girl.
What were some of your faves? Fails? Im sure I missed some!
